Week of Jan. 25th

So we are back ...from some hour and a half trips to Squaw this weekend...Wow
Anyway here is what we are planning for this week...

ELA:  Finish up day for "Pigs as Pets" is Monday- if your child does not finish at school, it is homework... Also Reading is Homework every night.  Students are entering their 2nd week of their new book club book, please ask them about it every week and make sure they are reading Mon-Thur
We will be starting our 2nd Argument Essay Topic on Tue: "Should Children Play Video Games?"

Soc. St: Finish up day for Historical Fiction Short Stories..."Day at the Ziggurat"
We will then finish up Mesopotamia by studying "Inventions" then do a Final Project...
Google Slide Show: Topic "Was Mesopotamia a Civilization?" Prove it using some of the 7 Features of Civilization...Research/Photos/Presentation

Week of Jan 19th

Short Week Everyone....and it ends with 2 Minimum Days (So be ready)

LA:  We are finishing up Crime Scenes with the focus being "Evidence"
         Argument Essay #1 Pigs as Pets: This is our main focus for the week with a due date on Friday
         *You can check your child's progress in Google Classroom starting Wed

Soc. St:  We are finishing up our Ziggurat Models. After that they will be writing a Historical Fiction Narrative with the Ziggurat being part of the focus for the story.  Check Google Classroom for this assignment as well...

LA:  Book Club (Lit. Circle Program) Have your scholar finish the book by Thursday!
         Book Club #2 will meet for the last time on Friday Morning

Argument Writing:  Continue with our Socratic Seminar Activities
                                 Practice Citing Textual Evidence
                                 Practice (claim, evidence, warrant) using "Crime Scenes"
                                 Topic: Pigs as Pets (Discussion Time) using "Clock Appointments"
                                 Maybe begin writing Argument Essay #1


Social Studies:  Ziggurat Group Project
                          A. Finish the Model
                          B. Ziggurat Museum Walk with Speeches
                          C. Ziggurat 3D Project Write-up
                          D. Advanced Learner Project:  Chrome Book Challenge

Week of Jan. 4th 2016

Happy New Year

First off, we will be doing an activity to rediscover our personal learning styles and use that to set some new educational goals for 2016!!!

Eng/LA:  Argument writing is the focus.  We will be reviewing "Thesis Statements" and continuing our research on our first topic: Pigs as Pets
Also we will be doing some "Crime Scene Investigations" as a fun way to learn Claim, Evidence, Warrant.

Social Studies:  We will be researching Architecture in Mesopotamia and doing a hands on Ziggurat Project - So please send old playing cards if you can...

Week of November 16th

Hello everyone... its time for an update!  This is the last week of grading for Trimester1, so the deadline for all assignments and missing work is this Friday Nov. 20th

ELA:  This week we will be identifying, analyzing, and evaluating the 3 types of writing in the six grade standards...(Informative-Argumentative-Narrative)

Next, we will revisit our first writing assignment of the year and turn it into a Summative Assessment (Wed. thru Fri.)

Soc. Studies:  This week we will be Introducing our First Civilization ....Mesopotamia!! Woot Woot
                       Why it matters now...The Mesopotamians had to overcome a lack of resources.  Today                                                           people still work to solve shortages of water, food, and resources.

Week of October 26th

We are back from our 6th grade Nature Camp ....Shady Creek

Wow what a week - So many memories, experiences, and new relationships!!!
