September 12th - Welcome Back to a New School Year!!

Welcome back everyone!  Glad to see you at Back to School Night...

Week of September 12th:

ELA: Informal Letter (We will be writing our Final Copy in Google Classroom) Ask your student to share it with you when you have time. Its ok if you want to help them edit and/or add to it.

Class Novel: Maroo of the Winter Caves
                     We will begin reading this book together as a class (at school only, for now)

Also, will will be finishing up the last of our Relationship Building Activities

Soc. Studies: Archeology Lessons and Activities...Pre History is coming soon!

End of May

ELA:  Finishing State Testing...Book Club (lit. circles) are done...Starting a new class Novel The Giver
          Most of the time we will read The Giver together in class but once or twice a week students             will be assigned a Chapter to read for Homework!

Soc. St:  We have started studying Ancient China.  We have started with Geography and Isolation. We will then move on to The Great Wall, The Silk Road, and then the Dynasties.  Each student is building their own "interactive map" to add information as they learn. We are using Thinglink!

This is the first testing week for the CAASSP state wide test
Week 1 Math
Week 2 Language Arts

We will be on special schedules for most days during this testing time

ELA:  A mix of test practice, poetry, and "real testing"

Social Studies:  Egypt Final (5 paragraph essay in Google Classroom)

History:  We will be finishing up Egypt soon and then we will begin our next Ancient Civilization...
                China!

ELA:  We finished up Argument Writing before break...Now we will Infuse...
                        Poetry & Figurative Language, along with Test Prep for the New State Exam

ELA:  Google Classroom-Begin typing Argument Essay: Iditarod (Animal Cruelty or Just a Race?)
           Due Friday or it is weekend homework!
           Tue and Thursday are "Deployment Days" (Targeted instruction...quote sandwich w/warrant)
Today starts a new Book Club-Lit. Circle round...this is round 5!  So, check in with your student weekly to make sure they are keeping up with the pages!

Soc. Studies: Egyptian Afterlife.....finish packet, finish large Tomb Drawing, Start Minecraft Version...take screen shot of it and send it to mfraney@ttusd.org

Week of March 14th

Welcome back from the Windy Weekend....
Here is your update for the Week:

ELA: Our research (Articles & Videos) is now complete...So this week we will be finding "Categories" for the Research we want to use.  Next, all students need to chose a side they would like to argue.  Topic: Iditarod-Animal Cruelty or Just a Race?  Lastly, Socratic Seminars need to take place.  Then the writing begins...formal outline first, then Google Classroom 5 Paragraph Essay will begin. (This is both their rough draft and Final Copy)

Soc. Studies:  Egypt
This week we will continue with "The Afterlife"
We started with mummies but now we are way into it! We studied the book of the dead, so now we will start designing our own Tombs on Paper.
After that students will be able to use their i-phones to recreate their tombs on Minecraft--take a screen shot and print we finished and then connect it to the Rigor Piece.

March 7-11

ELA:  New Argument Writing Topic-"Iditarod: Animal Cruelty or Just a Race?"
           We have all chosen our Sled Dog Teams and will track what place they are in as a warm-up activity every day before we get into the research...
The Research will include articles, videos, group discussions, and Socratic Seminars
The 5 Paragraph Argument Essay will begin next week

Social Studies:  Ancient Egypt
                          This week we will be studying: Architecture, Daily Life, and the roll of Religion
